Geek Charming by Robin Palmer [ Reading Log entry # 4 ]

Part 1


Reflect : Dylan's attitude is  a must-be-reflected  bring up to most girls around. Being materialistic, self-centered and selfish could eventually mess up everything around you when you keep raging on being like these. Being the most popular individual in school does not require a full-asset show up of rich or beauty.Even in Josh' behavior, someone could possibly pluck fame by using a simple blow of humility. However, if people would only see the hidden things about someone's life especially the popular ones, they are also humans who were just being shaped by emotional longing and real relationship with others.It is a good circumstance for Josh as a film  geek and for Dylan as a public figure to meet each other and discover the meaning of life by forgetting who they are.

Question : Why didn't the two characters end up in a romantic relationship?It was a sad and open ended story that has made me feel life's surprises about love. If ever Dylan had fallen in love with Josh, could their be a possibility that Josh would also try to feel the same way?If Amy did not pursue her schooling in High Castle, could have Josh turned her side on Dylan's?And if Josh was not too humble to ask Dylan to make  a documentary with him,could Dylan change her bad attitude in a way only she could do?

Connect : I can see the world's standard as a deceiving kind of existence.Fame continues slashing all the cause of  simplicity in a room of rejection. Dylan's life made its drive into a simple ending of true living. Without Josh, she would not have known that there are a lot of times being wasted in a world of materialism. Accordingly, being geek like Josh is not an all-about-a-nerd approval. I am a geek. Not a film geek but a life-searcher freak. This story has caught up all the meaning of teenage life. It has made me realize that love in its simplest definition, turns everything in order as long as it sees you totally matured and changed enough.

Predict : Josh might not have changed his perspective without Dylan's presence. And Dylan might not have saw her uniqueness without Josh' simplicity. Josh might have a good relationship with Amy as well as Dylan with Robert. Josh and Dylan may not have ended up in romance but the experiences they have shared would have  probably made them realize that they were truly best friends ever but less than lovers. Additionally, Josh might have reduced using his inhaler especially as he already had Amy who would teach him to breath in a heart-beating way.

Reflect - I was awe stricken when I discovered  that Boo Radley  had stepped out of his comfort zone during the night Jem and Scout were struggling from an attack. It was really out of my mind to anticipate that someone-like Boo Radley, who was a man who never got out of his haunted house , would eventually save the two kids from danger. What had happened the night when Jem and Scout were walking in the middle of darkness, was  a traumatic experience. I think, it was more than good enough for the Finch family to believe that Bob Ewell fell on his own knife, instead of suspecting that it was Jem who killed Bob for a purpose of self-defense.

Question - It's still a question for me on how Boo Radley knew that Bob Ewell was to assassinate Jem and Scout. Did he already know in the first place of what was going on the Finch family? Was he always on a watch out for Jem and Scout investigating that he was the main purpose why the two naughty kids were very interested to draw him out? And if he did not come out of nowhere to rescue the kids, could have Scout found a way out of the danger and run for help?

Connect - During my childhood days, I used to hang around with my buddies and seek for adventure without my parents' consent. We went out for ghost-hunting, river swimming, caroling and etc,. Like Scout, I was very inquisitive and sensitive as if I was a Psycho spectator. Even in matters that only adults exclusively do, I never let time to pass by without my tongue to slip off and and make a blasting interruption just to raise a question.
My mind kept on swirling around just to end up interrogating. Not until I aged like Jem when I realized that I was  a meddler.

Predict - I think that Boo Radley would have been Jem and Scout's friends after the incident. Scout would have obviously inquired more and more from her father about Boo's purpose of saving them. And about Bob Ewell's death, his family might have gotten mad and would have possibly made threats on the Finch family.

If I have two hearts...

I would choose the one to love God...

And the other one...

to LOVE HIM MORE ...

Love Life

 

Living life to the fullest is qualitatively different than merely existing. 

 

Live a life that others will only live on the future.

 

Believe that you can overcome any battle and trust God more than yourself.

  Making a decision is the beginning of something.When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of.

Part 1

Reflect: Life is truly broad. It keeps on giving so much fuss about human existence and his own world. Human mind continually explores that even sometimes he mindlessly goes beyond the limit. Like Athena, she searched for an absolute answer to fill in the "blank spaces" of her world. Questions and unsatisfying happiness inevitably intervened and anger furiously interceded. She chose to surrender her future by searching for that "something" until she went through painstaking encounters from the physical world. She believed that she was the Goddess Mother or a god herself because God for her is another type of existence who rules the world. She deeply believed that the best way to live is to know who you are beyond your own ability to describe yourself. 

Connect: The story brings out metaphysical approaches.It is all about questions throughout a living until pushing yourself to explore something you think is impossible to encounter. I hardly get the main point because I myself doesn't understand why most people have to search for something and take the risk for their dreams when the only answer for everything is to believe that there is GOD who rules over our lives. I was once lost and now I've found the answer through seeking the real God. Athena life was all about searching and looking for her own happiness but she was only destroyed because she only believed that she was also a goddess who could turn everything upside down through her ability to possess what God only possesses.

Questions: It is really a quest for life to explore something we do not understand or what we see a "blank space" inside of us. But do we really have to go beyond the limit when the only answer to our quests is to seek for the truth and believe that Jesus is the only way for us to discover the real meaning of living? The story "the witch of portobello" is a novel about searching for that "unknown" and believing that the answer is that we are also gods. Philosophy sometimes contradicts belief. But do we really have to live all throughout with traditions when the best way to achieve spiritual contact is to seek for Jesus and real persons to whom we can confide? It is not wrong to break away from a church. But why some people have to backslide believing they don't grow but are building their own kingdom and not of God? And why do we have to push ourselves travel to a metaphysical world when the truth is to surrender our life to God and have a deep relationship with Him?

Predict: I think that Athena, or Shrine Khalil could not have encounter pains and heartaches if she opened herself to a world where life endlessly flows with love where only God untiringly offers. She should not have taken the risk and left her son if she believed that there are a lot of chances for her and that she was only a human to serve the omnipotent and not a goddess. And if there was a true Christian who could have led her to the truth, she could have had  believed that the "blank spaces" are orderly designed by God that He is the only authority to answer and fill in the spaces.

Part two

"Learn, but always learn with other people by your side. Don’t be alone in the search, because if you take a wrong step, you'll have no one there to help put you right."

* Godly friends are the only people to whom we can lean on. Through them we could see the reflection of ourselves and our real purposes as persons and confidants.

"Love is enough to justify a whole existence." 

* In searching for something we don't have to go beyond our limits because God Himself is beyond description. Love itself would only manifest when we humbly submit to Him all our questions and doubts. There is no other way to define life when you are contented in living with purity and godliness.

"...regardless of how love is manifested, love forgives our mistakes and redeems our sins."

* Jesus is the only description of love because if we truly have the best understanding of salvation, we will no longer live with desires but instead live with real happiness.

"You are what you believe yourself to be."

*Our fate depends on how we believe in our own characters. We are the greatest prophet of our lives so our future holds on our will in understanding our capabilities. This line is important to know because most people fail to appreciate their capacities of fighting their weaknesses.

"We get lost because it is the best way to discover interesting places."

*This line means so much. When we get lost, we turned to a wrong road and it is sometimes hard for us to recognize the best path because we only choose what we think is good to see instead of choosing right to be stepped on. And we get lost because of our sins. We unconsciously live in a world we think is a real happiness until we catch ourselves in sufferings and pains. To seek for His presence is the most interesting place and bow down our heads for repentance and say "I'll pray".

"Live now what others will only live in the future."

*It is important for us humans because in every moment we do simple decisions, our future takes hold of it. So to laugh, love and live are the greatest choices we have to choose to define the real meaning of the present. What we are doing now might be other people's dreams.

"To make life interesting, is to make a gesture you do each day but not repeating them twice."

*Everyday is not an ordinary day because everything we are going encounter is a battle.So to make each day an interesting experience is just to undergo something new to blot out boredom and complacency.When we do this, our everyday routine would be something extraordinary- great as it may seem.

Silent Explosion (A comparative study)

Everything has something behind it. And something is nothing –“unspecified” or unknown, defined by itself. Based on the relative standard of the law of nature, something comes out like a single sprout, and everything started to exist. That is the unique demonstration of existence that something itself cannot define its own characteristic. Throughout the power of sense, a human being contrives varieties of questions out of something which begins from independent perception followed by undergoing observations. As a result, these serve as a bridge discovering the truth behind what is considered the reality and explore concrete answers beyond views which are “only believed as it is”.

Throughout uncertainties underlying questionable types of phenomena, Nicolas Copernicus and Mohandas Gandhi were just one of these human beings who went through painstaking and skilled observations in order to achieve the truth when “something behind a single thing was left unanswered”.

Nicolas Copernicus, a Polish astronomer, amended an arbitrary that the Earth is the center of the universe – which was the long-accepted view conceptualized by Ptolemy. Copernicus went into a prudent scrutiny grasping the chance to undergo further studies with regard to the rampant concept during the old times. By formulating precise analogies taken from practical scheming courses and applied principle of mathematics and philosophy, he affiliated  the focus of his study basically from the Earth’s structure and movement until obtaining the status of its location. He found out every violent situation as the worst thing to be taken up, because violence in its use rejects the rare essence of human soul, to be won over by appealing into others. By realizing this anthological fact, making every opposing subject worse, he made another method called satyagraha. It is a type of spiritual power, to achieve a goal taking rational discussion fall into a calm and critical self-reflection. He called it a great way persisting on a pursuing truth aimed to destruct the barriers of prejudice, ill-will, dogmatism and self-righteousness. It is by touching one’s heart and moving it smoothly not just the mind. “Suffering love” is the best thing to penetrate the opponent’s heart as it forms an inspiring principle of method. In the opposite view of his method, he discovered its value when it did not suited on all humanitarian beliefs and values. His method showed a limited standard implying that some totalitarian systems and mandates undermined the essential significance of satyagraha – that not on general aspects of soul-force could possibly apply its transforming method due to differences of beliefs.

Gandhi’s and Copernicus’ views have a huge and subtle type relationship discerning the best and helping way in discovering something behind everything existing partially opened. Their countless ideas, candid efforts, constant observations and wholehearted dedications are one of kind concerns explaining the truth beyond this intricate world. Their views also adjusted in a reciprocate intercession between each other. As discovery exists, invention follows. And as invention follows, development proceeds. There is no way to control everything that happens to exist as human mind continually explores. Indeed, it is not quite surprising why everything we inevitably sense brings forth quests and moves some people to probe and create something that is not strange and futile but that is new and useful. Every invention comes from a simple existence that is just being developed through human efforts. And a ballpoint pen is just one of the simple things that have existed, being developed, and has become an improvised writing machine. And as history divulges its trace, it’s simple figure and parts conceal a complex task of mechanism to which we may say that invention itself exists beyond description.

A ballpoint pen is a writing instrument with a tip that is continuously supplied with ink. The pen consists of a metal ball seated in a socket below an ink reservoir, (The Incredible Ball Point). When applied to a writing surface, the ball rotates and is bathed with just enough ink for smooth writing.

Now the goal of this pen is to create a device that can distribute a fast-drying thick ink, without having the ink dry out of the pen itself.  So the key is the ball. The ball acts as a continuous cap that keeps the ink from drying and it is the rolling mechanism for the ink into the paper. A hard task. First to keep the ink dry, second to get the ink out. The ball is typically made of brass, because it is not only strong but also has a pleasing appearance […..] and does not rust. That is why it is made of solid to compensate with gas and liquid when used and unused, (www.novelguide.com). The ball seems the most crucial element for the mechanism, yet, its other partner that shares responsibility is the ink. We might say that the ink can actually be put into whatever pen we may prefer to choose. However, it plays much subtle when it is perfectly blended and made slightly thick to dry in the pen reservoir and be free of particles. The ink is made different compared to a fountain pen because the ballpoint pen ink finds its place to keep the balance of viscosity. That is why if a fountain pen ink is used in a ballpoint pen. It would easily leak out or clog. The ink has to live in a house where it is apt to survive.

Lastly, the socket. Since the tip of pen is hard to be visualized, we might say that the socket is not that more important. Unknowingly, its function is the most important for a ballpoint pen that helps the ink and the metal ball in maneuvering.  According to the dictionary, it is an opening in any fitting that matches the outside diameter of a pipe or tube. It is where the ball is fitted allowing it to roll around freely, (encyclopedia).  A socket for holding the writing ball-pint pen comprises a tubular member having a tip potion formed to hold a writing ball, a rod inserted into the tubular member to receive the ball in a seat provided at the forward end [….]. Ink passages are formed between the tubular member and the rod and grooved ink outlets circumferentially provided in the inner walls of the tip portion of the tubular member to communicate with ink passages and the outside of the socket. Some ballpoint pens are not completely dependent on gravity work. In some designs, there is a constant pressure applied behind the column of ink, enabling the writer to use the pen even if the writing tip is elevated. It requires a certain amount of pressure to be applied in order for it work. Hence, it lacks the free-flowing quality found in some other pen designs, (www.ehow.com). Its ink may rely on the gravity as well, but stored a lot more in the cartridge.

It is simple enough in theory but in practice, the designing of a ballpoint pen is tough. The metal ball, the ink and the socket are the simple characters with bigger roles behind this unimaginable work. Doing the hard stuff.
